Untamed nature

The untamed nature of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is embodied in the myth of the proud horses of Diomedes, the king of Thrace, of which is said that the horses of Alexander the Great were originated. Hercules came to Thrace and after adventures managed to tame the horses, entrusting their custody to Avdero. Returning to take them and lead them to Eurystheus, he saw his friend, Avdero, lying dead, after he was devoured by the horses. He founded the homonymous city ιn his honor.
